On the 2nd of June 2016, Elea attended the 23rd Innovation Day of the German “Mittelstand” (German mid-sized companies) of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy. The ministry invited research institutions and their industry partners to present their current research projects and innovations at an exhibition in the garden of the AiF (The German Federation of Industrial Research Associations).
Together with the Technical University Berlin (TU Berlin) and the FEI (Research Group of the German Food Industry), we presented an example of cooperative industrial research where a PEF-assisted drying process has been developed for a variety of fruits and vegetables. With the help of new technologies a more efficient drying process was achieved, resulting in much lower energy use, shorter processing times and a better product quality.
As Elea we also presented our CellCrack II Batch model on the FEI’s exhibition stand. Here we could directly demonstrate the effect of PEF on different materials and could explain it to the visitors. In the picture you can see Hermann Färber, member of the German parliament, looking at PEF-induced color extraction from red beetroot.
