International PEF School in Osnabrück and Quakenbrück
From May 14 to May 18, 2018, the 5th International PEF School took place at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with the German Institute of Food Technology. The one-week event was all about Pulsed Electric Fields (PEF), an innovative technology with applications in the food industry and biomedicine.
30 international participants and speakers were present – including academics and food industry representatives. Students from the University of Osnabrück from the Master of Agricultural and Food Sciences were also approached with the profile “Food and Bioprocess Engineering” as part of the module “Food Process Design”.
The participants of the PEF School experienced a colourful mixture of theoretical lectures, an excursion to the PEF systems user Wernsing Feinkost GmbH in Essen / Oldenburg as well as practical workshops with the technology provider Elea and the DIL in Quakenbrück. PEF system manufacturer Elea opened the doors of its test centres to demonstrate live the numerous applications in the food industry, such as the simplified processing of potatoes, more yield in the juice extraction or the gentle preservation of fruit juices. The PEF School was well received and will be held again next year in Cesena, Italy, at the University of Bologna.
We hope to meet you there!
